Visual Inches Make a Difference..

When it comes to bridesmaids dresses.. and any other dress for that matter, girls basically want to look tall and lean.  Considering these days the average girl is about 5’4″ tall.. Who wouldn’t want to look taller?   I’m 5’9″, and I’d love to be about 6ft.  Why?  Everything seems to look a little better when it’s on a taller person.  Fashion in general is created, and modeled by amazon women who all tower over us while stomping down the runway.  Some of the runway models are over 6 ft before they’ve even strapped on their 4″ stiletto spikes. Outrageous!

There are, however, lots of ways and dresses for that matter, that can visually fool the eye’s into thinking you are taller than you actually are.  First of all, long dresses are always the key.  Especially in a darker jewel tone color.  Besides the fringe benefit of using the darker colors to brighten your skin tone and hide unwanted “problem areas”, the long dresses will help to lengthen out your look and make you visually appear taller.  The key, however, is to avoid the fuller skirt.  Too much circling fabric will actually shorten you.  Basically.. somewhere between a fitted A-line and Mermaid skirt.

A Second trick is fabric.  Chiffon is the most Friendly to the body fabric known to mankind.. Provided it’s not too tight.  Just because you are paying for alterations, doesn’t mean that the dress should be a second skin. A soft, narrow, floaty chiffon skirt paired with the right heels can instantly add inches to your visual self.

As you can see, sometimes the dress will do all the hard work for you.  5’4″? wouldn’t it be amazing to tell people that you’re a “visual 5’10″”?  Think about that one..
